Traumatic Brain Injury Successful Vision Rehabilitation

Vision rehabilitation can help the patient overcome visual disturbances thus regaining some of their ability to perform daily living activities.

Mary* came to Excel after being involved in an auto accident.  She was a senior in college and had to put schooling on hold due to severe visual symptoms.

Mary worked diligently at her therapy and saw a marked reduction in symptoms. Her gains include but are not limited to:

  • Blurry vision had stabilized but night driving was still a challenge
  • Her eyes were more comfortable overall.
  • Dizziness & headache after prolonged visual tasks was reduced
  • Double vision was eliminated
  • Light sensitivity was significantly reduced
  • Regained confidence when moving about and felt more coordinated
  • Peripheral fields settled down although she still avoids crowded places
  • Reading with comprehension has improved

Mary improved her vision & comfort, went back to school and finished her degree.  Her entire demeanor changed. She is no longer guarded & unsure of herself but a confident woman taking charge of her life!

Improvements in Driving, Crowds and Light Sensitivity

Since initiating vision therapy, I have noticed improvement in my driving. I am visualizing my surroundings more with decreased “tunnel-vision” and am more comfortable driving at night.

Another area I notice improvement is in sensory motor. I can now walk into a crowded place like a concert or football game without experiencing “sensory overload” and it feels wonderful.

I also see improvement in light sensitivity. Before therapy light used to bother my eyes. Now light does not bother me because my eyes can adjust better.

Vision therapy was an “eye-opening” experience for me. I realize that my vision is important and precious. I know annual examinations are necessary to keep my eyes healthy and my sight crystal clear. I am glad I had vision therapy because now my future is brighter and clearer than I ever imagined it would be.

Positive Experience at Excel

I had a stroke while at work driving the company truck. The stroke caused one of my eyes to turn towards my nose and it stayed that way. This made me see double and I could not drive. I could not watch TV without getting a terrible headache.

I came to Excel Institute looking for hope and help for my problem. Dr. Dana Haba, FCOVD, recommended 16 weeks of Vision Therapy. The results were exactly what I had hoped for. My eye straightened out and I am still fine after many months. I can drive again and watch TV all without any problems.

My Vision Therapy consisted of weekly visits to Excel Institute where my therapist worked with me and taught me exercises to do at home. If some eye exercises bothered me, they would try something else until I was comfortable. I liked the way my therapist noted my progress each week, and kept me informed as to how I was progressing. This kept my hope at a high level that I would eventually be able to see normal and drive again.

I definitely would recommend Dr. Haba and Excel Institute to anyone who is experiencing any unusual eye problems. All of the staff are very nice. Dr. Haba and the staff are very knowledgeable at what they do. I thank them for what they did for me.
