Danna Haba, O.D., FCOVD
Founder of Shelby Eye Care in 1987, and the Excel Institute of Shelby in 2004, Dr. Haba specializes in behavioral optometry and vision therapy, working extensively with children and adults with difficulties in learning or vision perception, physical handicaps, or brain injuries. Dr. Haba graduated with honors from the University of Missouri College of Optometry in 1985, was a past adjunct professor for the Michigan College of Optometry, and has been involved in a cooperative research project with the University of Detroit. She serves nationally as a frequent lecturer and consultant to educational, rehabilitation and therapy providers, as well as other eye care professionals. A Fellow of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development, Dr. Haba is a member of AOA, COVD, MOA and OEP.
Aaron Nichols, O.D., FAAO
Dr. Nichols graduated from Ferris State University in 2014 and then enrolled at the Illinois College of Optometry where he graduated in 2018. After graduation, he completed a residency in Vision Therapy and Rehabilitation affiliated with State University of New York. He is active in research and is the co-founder of the Optometric Phototherapy Investigator Team (OPIT). OPIT members have partnered with researchers at Ohio State University to advance the clinical use of optometric phototherapy through an evidence-based medicine approach. His active professional memberships include the Michigan Optometric Association, College of Optometrist in Vision Development, and the College of Syntomic Optometry. He is also a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. In his free time, he enjoys working out, playing or watching sports, taking his dog for walks, and spending time with his beautiful fiancé.
Senior Patient Care Coordinator
Patricia joined our Excel team in 2021. She became a certified Medical Assistant in 2018 and completed her Human Resource Management certification in 2020. Her career of the past eight years consists of hands-on medical and office experience in specialties of Pediatrics, General Family Practice and Assisted Living for seniors. In her free time, Patricia enjoys spending her time with her husband, two daughters, and soon to be new baby boy.
Sandra Kuna, COVT
Sandra has worked in the vision therapy field for 19 years. She received her B.A. in sociology from Buffalo State College, and in 2003 she became a Certified Optometric Vision Therapist (COVT).
Kelsey has just recently joined excel and has been enjoying forming relationships with all of her patients. She is currently working towards her BME degree (Biomedical engineering). She has been working the last 5 years in various rolls in the optical industry for private family practices. Those of which include: optician, scribe, and technician. In her free time, she enjoys painting, boating, and shopping at target.
Lead Vision Therapist
Stephanie joined Excel in 2020 and has been working as vision therapist for the past five years. She is also currently working towards her board certification in vision therapy (COVT). Stephanie has gained a passion for helping her patients achieve their vision goals. She also specializes in learning disabilities and traumatic brain injury. In her free time, she enjoys camping, hosting game nights, and spending time with her family and pets.
Financial/Marketing & Maintenance Manager
Doug has been with Shelby EyeCare for 19 years and Excel Institute for seven. He manages the finances and marketing efforts of both companies, is involved in all regulatory issues (i.e., government and association requirements) and helps to maintain the building and property. Doug has a degree in packaging engineering and earned his masters in English.
